Healing Touch

Healing Touch is an evidence and energy-based, holistic therapy that supports physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being; using gentle, intentional touch and energy techniques to restore balance to your energy systems and activate your innate capacity for healing.

 

​We don't just start and stop at our skin. There is more to us than meets the eye than we could probably even imagine. Intricate energy systems and pathways exist within and around our physical bodies, and are referred to as the Human Biofield or the Human Energy Field. The National Institute of Health classifies Healing Touch as a Biofield Therapy. The Biofield is in constant contact with our environment, ourselves, and others. These energies are surely real and can be sensed, perceived, felt, and influenced, and have a direct impact on our health and our lives.    â€‹â€‹

Sessions are conducted in a peaceful, supportive environment, similar to that of Massage Therapy. The client remains fully clothed, and in the position of most comfort: lying down, seated, reclined, or standing. There is a brief intake discussion before the practitioner prepares to assess the energy field. Through conscious and intentional light touch or off-body techniques, the practitioner clears energetic obstacles, and restores balance to the Biofield, supporting the body's natural ability to heal. 

 

​During a session, clients sometimes experience tingling, temperature shifts, slight muscle twitches, and profound calmness. Some even fall asleep. Most clients report feeling deeply relaxed, comforted, and renewed after a session. Some experience emotional release, insights, subtle energetic shifts or increased vitality.

Healing Touch was developed in 1989, by Janet Mentgen, RN, a nurse veteran of 43 years, whose work was inspired by her profound desire to strengthen and deepen the nurse-patient connection. Through her research, she found that patient outcomes greatly improved, healing was accelerated, and hospital stays were shortened, and, yes, the bond between patient and nurse deepened and expanded, leading to many other health benefits. The American Holistic Nurses Association sponsored Janet's Healing Touch Certification Program, recognizing its great value in healthcare and supporting this clinical approach to energy-based therapy. Healing Touch is used in many hospitals to help prepare and calm patients for anxiety-provoking surgeries, procedures, and treatments, and may also be used as a diagnostic tool, as specified by The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association. Healing Touch is prevalent in healthcare and wellness settings around the world, as well as, in private practice.​
